Ride of Silence
Ride of Silence Logo
On Wednesday May 16th 2012, the City of Niagara Falls Trails & Bikeway Committee will host the 6th Annual Ride of Silence at the MacBain Community Centre beginning at 7:00 pm. The Annual Ride of Silence Event will commence with a short prayer for all injured and fallen cyclists followed by a silent procession. The route is approximately 10 km in length, and will highlight some of the worst roads to ride on in the City of Niagara Falls. The route will also showcase the benefits of bike lanes as cyclists will travel on Kalar Road which received bike lanes in 2009/2010. Riding time is approximately 35 minutes.
The Ride of Silence is a silent procession of cyclists to remember cyclists who were injured or killed while riding. The ride will be slow (20 km/h maximum) and there will be no talking. As this is an event to promote "sharing the road", there will be no road closures so riders must obey the rules of the road (single file, adhere to traffic stops). Helmets are mandatory.
This ride is free (i.e. there are no registration, sponsorship or pledge fees required). It is suggested that black armbands be worn in memory of those who have been killed; red armbands are worn for those injured while riding, kindly provide your own.
1982 World Champion, Gord Singleton, will be leading the cycling group through the route.
